Go-Cast Enterprise
How to put your church on Roku, Apple TV, Samsung and LG televisions
Every television platform has its own store, its own review and its own rules. Here is what each one asks of a ministry, and what to have ready.
In short: to put your church on the television you need an app in each platform's store — Google for Android TV, Amazon for Fire TV, Apple for Apple TV, Roku, Samsung and LG — each with its own developer account, review and technical rules, plus a reliable video stream for the apps to play. Go-Cast Enterprise is a dedicated deployment on your own domain: live video (IP television) and a video-on-demand archive, apps for Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, Samsung and LG televisions, and listener and studio apps for iOS and Android, all published under your ministry's name. It is priced by quotation. Set-up includes building, branding and submitting every app and taking it through review.
Six stores, six sets of rules
A smart television is not one platform. A church that wants to be on most of the televisions its members own needs to be in several stores, and each one reviews apps separately.
Where your members' televisions get their apps| Platform | Store | Typical devices |
|---|
| Android TV / Google TV | Google Play | Many smart TVs and TV boxes |
| Amazon Fire TV | Amazon Appstore | Fire TV sticks and Fire TV televisions |
| Apple TV | Apple App Store | Apple TV boxes |
| Roku | Roku Channel Store | Roku sticks and Roku televisions |
| Samsung | Samsung's TV app store | Samsung smart televisions |
| LG | LG Content Store | LG smart televisions |
What to prepare before you start
- Developer accounts in your ministry's own name for each store, so the apps are published by you. Apple and Google ask organisations for a D-U-N-S number.
- Your logo, colours and the name you want on the television screen.
- A privacy policy page, which every store asks for.
- A dependable live stream and a few recorded programmes, because reviewers open the app and expect something to play.
- Someone who will answer the stores' review questions promptly.
Review is where launches slip
Store reviews take from a day to a few weeks and can come back with questions. Plan the public announcement for after every app is approved, not for the day you submit.
Announce the channel when the last store has approved it, not when the first one has.
Keeping the apps alive
Television platforms change their requirements regularly, and an app that is not kept current can be removed. Go-Cast Enterprise's yearly service keeps the apps up to date and re-submits them when that is needed.
Frequently asked questions
Can a church have its own Roku channel?
Yes. A ministry can publish its own app in the Roku Channel Store under its own name, with live video and an on-demand archive. Go-Cast Enterprise builds and submits it with the other television apps.
Do we need a developer account for each TV platform?
Yes, so the apps are published under your ministry's name. Go-Cast Enterprise submits the apps under your own developer accounts.
How long does it take to get onto every television store?
Allow several weeks. Each store reviews separately, and reviews can come back with questions that need answers before approval.
